Asthma in Children Can Cause Heart Failure

Asthma in Children can cause heart failure. Children who have asthma since childhood if not treated can cause heart failure during adulthood. Researchers warn that children who had suffered from asthma since childhood have a greater potential for chest pain, shortness of breath, fainting, until heart failure when fully grown.

Based on research, asthma in children can cause left ventricular thickening. This is one of the four chambers of the heart chamber which is responsible for pumping oxygenated blood throughout the body with a condition called left ventricular hypertrophy (LVH). This thickening can lead to loss of elasticity of the heart and ultimately leading to heart failure in pumping.

Lu Qi, Director of the Tulane University in Louisiana, US. Said that young adults with a history of asthma had significant potential for the addition of left ventricular mass.

Patients with pre-hypertensive and hypertensive conditions also have great potential to experience the same with children with asthma. Furthermore, it is said that the prevalence of asthma has grown since the last decade, with current estimates of up to 8.6% in children and 7.4% in adults.
